Early Intervention
For most parents, the uneasiness begins when their child is unable to express themselves or only speak a few words at 16 months of age.
Connie says that the "crucial age is around 24 months of age when an explosion of words and the beginning of sentences emerge." If your child is not speaking, it is important to address your concerns at your local Early Intervention program or talk to your child’s pediatrician.
Early intervention is crucial not only from a developmental/ progress standpoint but also a financial investment. Children who are given early intervention make significant progress compared to those who have not. In some cases, with just a few months of therapy the child can develop into a happy and verbal child.

About the Therapist
Hello! My name is Connie Yu and I'm the lead therapist at Recess Therapy. I received my Bachelor in Sociology from University of California, Riverside and my Master degree from University of Redlands, Ca. I am a member of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association and the California Speech-Language-Hearing Association . During my graduate training, I was awarded numerous scholarships and awards for my educational and clinical skills. I hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence, California Speech and Language Credential, and licensed by the State of California as a Speech Language Pathologist. I am PROMPT-trained, PECS trained and Hanen Certified.
I provide effective therapeutic plan, parent groups, and educational recommendations. I am a active team member during student study team meetings and Individualized education plan. I'm also an active therapist working with children in the 0-5 population.
I love and enjoy what I do. There is so much more to observe, more to learn, more to explore. I am a professional but an active student at the same time. I enjoy collaborating with other healthcare professionals, educators and parents. I believe through collaboration, a child can reach their full potential.
I've developed this website as a service to those who are interested in speech and language disorders and parents of children with speech and language disorder.
